Steps to Becoming a Resource Parent
- Click HERE to download the Orientation Handouts
- Follow this link to fill out the Pre-Orientation Survey and watch the RFA Orientation video the entire way through.
- After watching the video, be sure to fill out the Contact form and Post Survey and SUBMIT, which enables you to receive credit for your participation. If you would like an RFA social worker to reach out to you, please be sure to check the box on the contact form so that one of our team members can answer your questions. Click here to review the RFA Written Directives. A copy of this will be provided to you during an RFA home visit.
Once you complete our Resource Family Orientation, the next step is to register for pre-service training classes with Kids and Families Together by calling 805-643-1446 X151.
The pre-service training classes are a total of 15 hours and are required to learn about regulations, requirements, challenges, and benefits of being a resource family. Additionally, our trauma-informed training provides an opportunity for the resource family and Children and Family Services to assess together whether becoming a resource family is the best fit for your family.
Please note: you can work on your application as you are completing classes.
Contact the Homes with Heart team prior to your last pre-service training class to obtain the link to the RFA application.
Please note: if application is not signed before completion of pre-service training, applicant/s will not be credited for training and will need to retake pre-service training.
