Fostering parents are offered a range of continuing education opportunities through Children and Family Services, Foster and Kinship Care Education Program of the local community college network and our multiple partners.
Training is designed to enrich trauma informed parenting skills, understanding of special needs, and knowledge of available community resources for the family and child. In addition, foster parents receive in-home, individualized training designed to support their fostering skills, knowledge of how the child’s trauma and history impact his/her behavior, and how to care for yourself as a fostering parent.
New fostering families are also matched with an experienced PPE (Peer Partner Educator), a foster parent mentor who is able to mentor and educate them on the practical matters of fostering.
